University Tip: 
If wanting to enroll at a university then introduce yourself to the Maori Liaison team.  All universities have these teams and these people are there to help you navigate the labyrinth of university bureaucracy. They help with enrolments, course advice, scholarships, student loans, accommodation, homework assistance, child care, personal problems, health problems, making new friends, etc. 

Papakainga Loans:
Papakainga lending is available for building or buying housing on Maori land held in multiple ownership.  The loan is secured over the house only - not the land.

Houses bought or built with a Papakainga loan must be easily relocatable with easy road access, and meet applicable local authority requirements.  Most are single story, pile foundation homes.

To be eligible for a Papakainga loan you will need to meet Housing New Zealand lending criteria and provide a 15 percent deposit.  In many rural areas the deposit required is only three percent if you have completed the home ownership workshop. More information can be found at:
